Our award winning oysters are grown and caught in the creeks surrounding Mersea Island in Essex by Richard Haward, seventh generation oysterman, and his sons Bram and Tom, who are eighth generation. These oysters grow in the River Blackwater, providing all the nutrients they need, giving them their wonderful taste, and enabling us to produce the highest quality oysters.
There are two types of oyster which we cultivate; the Colchester Native oyster and the rock oyster. All our oysters are purified in seawater from the River Blackwater meaning they retain the beautifully unique flavour associated with this area. All of the oysters we catch and sell are from our own layings as we have 14 acres.
All of our oysters are purified in the same water they're caught in so they filter through the nutrients they get from the marshes, giving them their unique taste and texture that only comes from Mersea oysters.
